Description

Hydrometer that measures the density or specific gravity of a liquid, the sugar content and the potential alcohol content.

  • Specific density range: 0.800 to 1.150 C.G
  • Sugar content range: 0 to 341 g/litre
  • Potential alcohol content range: 0 to 16%

The hydrometer should be used at a temperature of 20ºC (liquid temperature) and the reading should be made at the LOWER part of the meniscus created by the liquid.

The hydrometer, (also called a densitometer) measures the weight of a liquid compared to water. The weight of 1 litre of water at 4ºC is 1000g, which expressed on a specific gravity scale is represented as 1.000.

On the sugar content scale we can determine the sugar content of a fruit juice, a must, wine, beer, cider…

The sugar content is what determines the expected alcohol content in drinks such as wine or beer, something that we can read on the third scale that measures the % of alcohol.

A measuring cylinder is needed for its use.
